DAY 34: Be Watchful in Your Prayers

1 Peter 4:7 says: “But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.”

What does it mean to be watchful in your prayers?

I think it means to be attentive to what God is saying and observant of what he is doing.

In other words, we need discernment in the prayer closet and discernment in the public square. We have to keep our eyes open to what’s going on around us, and we have to keep our ears open to what the Lord is telling us.

One troubling observation I see is the radical pro-abortion agenda being promoted in the White House and the Capitol.

President Biden has said, “Reproductive rights are a constitutional right.  And, in fact, every woman should have that right.”

What he means is that abortion is a constitutional right!

Whatever your political loyalties may be, they should always be secondary to your loyalty to Christ and the authority of his word.

If we’re going to be watchful in prayer, we need to pay attention to what our representatives are doing in government.

Barely two months into his term, President Biden had already withdrawn support for the Hyde Amendment, which blocks federal funding for abortion.  He’s strongly in favor of funding abortions with taxpayer money and even requiring insurance companies to include coverage for elective abortion in their medical plans.

Today, as you pray, spend some time listening for God’s still small voice (1Ki 19:12). What is he saying to you?

Suggested things to pray for:
  • After listening to God, respond with what he has placed in your heart.
  • Pray that God would prevent immoral legislation from being passed into law.  Pray for our President and other government officials to become Pro-life.
