Psalm 49:15 – "But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, For He shall receive me."

I don't know why but whenever I think about dying I can get a little fearful. I'm embarrassed to admit that sometimes I wonder, "What if all I have believed in about death and going to be with Jesus doesn't happen?"

The other day I shamefully voiced this to a friend and she was a little shocked. It made me realize that I really needed to take this to the Lord in prayer. On my morning walk today I spent some time asking the Lord to speak to me and give me the assurance I needed to believe in my heart what I knew with my mind He has said, "I will be with you always even unto the end of the age." (Matt. 28:20)

Later in the day I was continuing my reading in Psalm 49. The Lord was exhorting me about trusting in wealth and riches, that "none of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him…For the redemption of their souls is costly…" In other words, we can't take our wealth with us and it can't be used to pay for the redemption of my soul or anyone else's. It is the Lord who redeems, He has paid the price.

Then the Lord gave me the assurance I had asked him for…"But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me. Selah" You know sometimes we can read a passage over and over and it not reveal the mystery of the message. And then one day you read it and it stands out with boldness! These words were the exact words I needed to hear! "He shall receive me." I have a perfect answer in my heart the next time that particular fear/doubt creeps into my mind.

Thank you Jesus that "You will perfect all that concerns me..." (Psalm 138:8)

Thy Word | Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith

Chorus 1
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path

Verse 1
When I feel afraid
And I think I've lost my way
Still You're there right beside me
Nothing will I fear
As long as You are near
Please be near me to the end

Verse 2
I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
My heart forever is wandering
Jesus be my guide
And hold me to Your side
I will love You to the end
