Psalm 86:11 – "Teach me Your way, O LORD;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name." (NKJV)
Have you ever contemplated how you respond to the saying, "Living in the moment?" I think I have always thought of it as doing something risky or daring. But recently it has taken on a different meaning.
I've thought more about this because of other thoughts that have entered my mind and affect how I plan my life. Such as thoughts of looking back on things I've done, or decisions I've made, knowing if I had the ability to see what I see now I would've made those decisions differently. Or, I look forward to the future and try to plan my decisions according to where I hope to be or what I hope to be doing.
Most of those thoughts are usually based on "big questions" or "big ideas." But a friend and I were talking about this and she shared with me how the Lord was teaching her about learning to "Live in the moment." About how to trust Him in the little moment by moment decisions that mean submitting to His way verses her own. An example was when she and her husband were taking a couple they were just beginning to know out on their boat for the day. On the way home the couple wanted to take them out to dinner.. She was tired and would've liked to be dressed more appropriately. She wanted to just go home. But she realized that the Lord wanted her to "Live in the moment" and put His desire for her to get to know the couple better above her discomfort.
Just that little story she shared shed His light on so many of those types of "Living in the moment" situations that come my way each day. Those "little" everyday moments when His ideas are contrary to what I feel like doing. It made me think that it could be those "Living in the moment" decisions that may someday change the "bigger picture" of my past or future into God transformation expressions.
Open My Eyes That I May See
Clara H. Fiske Scott
Verse 1
Open my eyes that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free
Chorus 1
Silently now I wait for Thee
Ready my God Thy will to see
Open my eyes illumine me
Spirit divine
Verse 2
Open my ears that I may hear
Voices of truth Thou sendest clear
And while the wave notes fall on my ear
Everything false will disappear
Verse 3
Open my mouth and let me bear
Gladly the warm truth everywhere
Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share
