"Statistics...? Yeah, I Can Help With That"

Psalm 111:10 – "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!" (ESV)

Have you ever struggled to figure something out? I fancy myself a person who enjoys solving problems. I’m the guy who enjoys word searches, sudoku, cryptograms, and even the occasional crossword puzzle (although those are my personal favorite). I even remember a while ago when my younger cousin asked me to help her with her college statistics homework. I said, “Sure, I can figure that out. I took statistics.” However, immediately after jumping into it, I realized that this was like a different language. And even after all of the reading and reviewing and figuring out, I still had to turn to Google for some assistance.

Now, whether you crushed college stats or if you think numbers are for the birds, it still goes without saying that we have a great need for wisdom in our lives, and we can't always rely on ourselves for understanding. Knowing right from wrong, discerning difficult situations, and making the right choices should not be entirely up to us. Of course, the Bible teaches that wisdom is available if we ask. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” I don’t know about you, but that is such an encouraging verse to read. God gives generously… to all… without reproach. However, two things must be prioritized in the equation: our relationship with God and our prayer life.

Our reverence and awe of who God is call us to both respect His being and obey His commands. As we obey God, we grow in wisdom. It's not solely about information or knowledge, but it has everything to do with the understanding of our relationship with Him, our need and dependence on Him, and our prioritized time with Him. Do you have any decisions you need to make? Do you have any God-sized problems that you’re trying to solve? Do you need help with better judgment and discernment? Prioritize your time in the quiet place with God and ask Him for a generous outpouring of His wisdom, that your life may reflect your relationship with Him.
