Jeremiah 5:22 – "'Should you not fear me?' declares the LORD.
'Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; They may roar, but they cannot cross it.'" (NIV)
One of my favorite places to go is the beach. I love lying on the beach and, on a good day, feel the heat of the sun as it shines over the water. I love going out on a boogie board and experience the satisfaction of catching just the right wave and riding it all the way in. And at night I love hearing the sound of the waves pound on the shore.
In this passage Jeremiah is relaying a warning to the people that have turned from the Lord and are following after other gods. But in the midst of it is a wonderful picture of the power and majesty of our God. The ocean is such a powerful entity. It can be beautiful but it has its dangers. And God created and controls it. He allows how high and how far it can intrude onto land.
It is a good reminder that, like the sand that controls the boundary for the sea, God controls the details of my life. At His Word He can change the course of those details. He sets barriers to prevent how close the waves can come. Good circumstances OR bad, God is in control. To me this doesn’t place God in a position of blame but in one of comfort. Because I believe He is good and loves me, I know that He will do and allow what will cause the most good in and for me. Sometimes that means going through storms to create whatever will bring about the most good to bring Him the most glory.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you…Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” Isaiah 43:1-2,7
Wonderful Grace of Jesus
Wonderful Grace of Jesus
Greater than all my sin
How shall by tongue describe it
Where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden
Setting my spirit free
O the wonderful Grace of Jesus
Reaches me
Wonderful the matchless Grace of Jesus
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea
Wonderful Grace all sufficient for me
Higher than the mountain
Sparkling like a fountain
All sufficient Grace for even me
Broader than the scope of my transgressions
Greater far than all my sin and shame
O magnify the precious name of Jesus
Praise His name!
