Daily Devotional

"I cried out to God with my voice
To God with my voice,
And He gave ear to me.
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
My hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing;
My soul refused to be comforted;
I remembered God, and was troubled;
I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed.
You hold my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I have considered the days of old,
The years of ancient times.
I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart,
And my spirit makes diligent search.
Will the Lord cast off forever?
And will He be favorable no more?
Has His mercy ceased forever?
Has His promise failed forevermore?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies?
And I said, "This is my anguish;
But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High."
I will remember the works of the Lord;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
I will also meditate on all Your work,
And talk of Your deeds.
Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary;
Who is so great a God as our God?
You are the God who does wonders;
You have declared Your strength among the peoples.
You have with Your arm redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Seleh"
Psalm 77:1-15
This past week has been a jumble of emotion for my family as we began the discovery that my grandson, Keegan, has PH-B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Along with the agony my son and daughter-in-law and their other 2 children are dealing with, I'm sure each one of my family members experienced several of the emotions in the first half of this passage; cries for help, distress, sleepless nights, deep groanings, lack of peace, speechlessness, feelings of rejection by God… has He vanished from our lives, did He forget about us, is He really merciful, is He angry with us…
I love that the Psalms give us perspective and that those emotions are real and there is grace as we deal with them The deceiver would have us think those feelings of rejection by God are also truth. But I love the second half of this passage. With the words, "I will remember," we are drawn to what we know…The deeds of the Lord, His miracles, His works, His mighty deeds, the safety in His presence, His holiness, His greatness, His power, His mighty arm of redemption.
The first passage the Lord brought to my mind when we heard of the possibility of our grandson's illness was Psalm 121:
"I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore."
This past week Pastor Kenton spoke to us about Jesus being in the Father and the Father in Him, and we are in Him and the Father. We have had a crash course in the working of cells in our bone marrow and as I listened to Pastor Kenton speak I was more in awe of the intricacies of our bodies and how they replicate the picture of the coagulation of binding us in the Trinity. (John 17:20-23 – “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.")
I'm praying as we walk out this journey that we will forever remember who we can run to. We do ask for your prayers because we will need them and all the unity of the body!
Jesus Jesus How I trust Him
How I've proved Him o're and o're
Jesus Jesus precious Jesus
Oh for grace to trust Him more.
