Deuteronomy 29:29 - “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (NKJV)
Secrets are so interesting. When you tell a friend you have a secret the first thing they will ask is, "What is it?" And they'll ask you over and over til you finally tell them…because isn't that why you told them you had a secret in the first place?
Or there's the type of secret you hold in your heart, with a small smirk on your face, thinking about when you will be able to reveal it and the joy that will come when it is revealed!
It's like Christmas and the anticipation of waiting for your loved ones to finally open the gifts you bought for them, and the overwhelming feeling you get because of the joy it brings them…hopefully:).
Can you imagine the joy it must bring to God to reveal His secrets to us? Yes, He does have secrets, but He is willing to show them to us. This makes me ask the question, "Why does He have secrets?" Maybe because knowing He does will cause us to be like the friend who keeps asking. Or maybe it's because of the joy He knows it will bring as soon as He reveals it.
And then the last question I ask myself is, "What are the secret things?" I think the answer is in the verse. It's whatever we need in order to do all the work of the law. At the time that meant turning to the LORD with all your heart and with all your soul (Read the next chapter, Deuteronomy 30). But even then the people were never able to do that with complete perfection. So the secret is JESUS! He is who we need in order to do all the works of the law and He is the one whose blood will cover all the times we fail to do them.
I tried to find a song about God smiling. There are lots of songs about us smiling because of Him, but I couldn't really find one about Him smiling on us. Maybe you can send me one because I know that….
God must smile every time He reveals His secret to someone!
