“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:15-20

The other night I was approached by a young man in the Church parking lot who was passing by. He said he knows in his heart that God exists but was struggling attending a particular church that was making claims and statements that he felt didn’t feel right. They sounded like a typical christian bible believing church but then were denying the Trinity and making statements that Jesus was only a son of God and not God Himself.

As crushing as it is to hear such things it is unfortunately nothing new. There have always been false prophets and supposed “men of God” who have received a “better” revelation from God. However these days many of these people have a much louder megaphone thanks to the internet. A well crafted YouTube video with moving music and catchy professional graphics and you can get away with saying almost anything and be believed. That is why it is so important as Christians to not only believe in Christ but know our Bible as well, in order to discern the truth from the lies.

Recently a “Pastor” posted a tweet about racism saying: “Racism is sinful. Jesus sinned. And repented.” Now that statement should send alarm bells ringing in every true christians head. Jesus sinned? What was even more troubling was the comments, as about half either defended or simply claimed some level of ignorance regarding whether Jesus sinned or not. All of whom claimed to be christians by the way. Keep in mind that the entire theology of Christianity doesn’t work if Jesus was a sinner. The whole point is that He was the sinless Son of God and therefore was the only one able to be the sacrifice for our sins.

The point here is the world is going to work to water down the gospel of Christ, to chip away at it slowly and steadily until people can make statements like this and not be run out of the Church. These statements are dangerous and easily ensnare those who are not informed or know their Bible. Secondly we as the body of Christ must call out this heresy when we see it, or it goes unchecked and people will begin to believe the lies. Be in the Word, be on guard for the Faith, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you.
