"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?" Psalms 8:3-4

When was the last time you got away from the city at night, somewhere remote, and looked up at the night sky? If it has been a while, it's time to do it again, to be taken in by the vastness of space and the multitude of stars, planets, and galaxies. There are few things that help put in perspective just how small and insignificant we as humans are. We run around in our everyday lives and the magnitude of our problems weighs us down as we think the universe revolves around us. But we are small. Really small.

Now that might seem depressing at first thought, that we are so small and insignificant. What are we even doing here? Does anything we do matter, does life matter or have meaning? However we can take comfort in the fact that we do matter, because God says so. Not because we are so great or interesting. But because we were created by God, given meaning and purpose by Him, and even more importantly, loved by Him.

In the midst of all the enormity of creation, the vastness of space, the infinite God, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the omnipotent One, the omniscient One, the omnipresent One, chooses to care about and love us. And not just from afar, He is acquainted with our every need and want, He cares about our insignificant problems and petty issues, and takes the time to guide and correct us. This despite our human tendency to sin against Him and reject Him on a daily basis. What are we that God, the one we really can’t fully grasp, should be mindful of us.

So remember this week, you are not alone, you matter to God. You have a purpose. You have been fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. He loves you. Lean on Him in your time of hurt and despair. Let His peace, the peace that is beyond understanding wash over you and remember that you are loved by the God of the universe!
