"Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharoah do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years. And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land of the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine."
Genesis 41:33-36

Every year in August I get ready for the fall/winter One Accord Adult Choir season. I try to seek the Lord in order to select music that will serve our church well and also minister to our choir so they can sing from their hearts. Some years the selections seem to just come so easy, and at other times I feel like the music seems harder to find. Sometimes it's the amount of time I have used to search out the music. In reading through this passage I realized that being prepared was a huge part of my excitement leading up to our first rehearsals. It's almost like I need to rehearse so that I can direct rehearsals…"winging it" isn't "giving God our A+" as Pastor Jon is known to say.

The other part of this passage that struck me was how the plan that Joseph came up with not only prepared for a time of plenty but also a time of want. As we have learned, seasons can change. I had to look at music for our choir that would work if we were all there or if some of us were missing, if we could do it in person, or maybe we could make another video.

It reminded me of Proverbs 16:9, "The mind of a person plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps." It takes trust and obedience in the Lord to plan for times of plenty as well as for times of want. In both cases Joseph acknowledged it needed wisdom and discernment to make the right plan. "So Lord, I pray that you lead and guide us with your wisdom and give us discernment as we serve and worship you."
