"Breathe"

BREATHE in and out.  This simple action gives life. We breathe in and out about 22,000 times a day!  This life function happens when we drive, when we are in conversation, when we are working-- even when we sleep. If I hold my breath—eventually my body will demand I breathe—it wins!

Prayer is very much like breathing.

We can experience such a connection with God that one prayer flows into the next and the next.  Perhaps 22,000 times a day? Even more! With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can “Pray without ceasing.”  I Thessalonians 5:17. How is this possible?!!!

The Holy Spirit inside us nudges our thinking, inspires, cultivates an on-going conversation with God. This intimate relationship develops as we grow in the Lord. The Holy Spirit prompts us to
pray when we drive, when we are in conversation, when we are working and even when we sleep. Even if we resist praying, eventually we will give up and pray! It may only be one word, “Why?” The Holy Spirit teaches, intercedes and empowers us to express ourselves to God.

Romans 8:26 “And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings, too deep for words.”

Just as breathing gives us life—so our prayers give us abundant life in relationship with God.
BREATHE IN AND OUT IN PRAYER!

PARENTS:
  • I believe we learn a lot from our kids about prayer.  They can be uninhibited and free.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to use your kids to show you how to be open and uninhibited in your prayers to God.
  • Enjoy the delightful way your kids pray.  Do it often.  You will hear their sweet hearts so willingly express to God what is on their mind.
  • Acquire a journal to write out their prayers.  Keep adding to it through the years.
