"God Leads the Way"

My favorite time of the day…I am snuggled down in my favorite chair. My study Bible in my lap. With a feeling of expectation, I read:

Numbers 9:15-17 “Now on the day that the tabernacle was erected the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony, and in the evening, it was like the appearance of fire over the tabernacle, until morning. So, it was continuously; the cloud would cover it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. And whenever the cloud was lifted from over the tent, afterward the sons of Israel would then set out; and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the sons of Israel would camp.”

I imagine myself being in this camp, walking around and gazing at God’s cloud by day and fire every night! Wow. How utterly amazing!  I wish I was there to experience this and be led by the cloud and fire!

WAIT A MINUTE!!! The Lord leads me EVERY DAY! God is not in the cloud or fire—He is in my heart-- Speaking to my heart, leading me to action! Yesterday’s experience pops into my head.  I was in my car getting ready to back up and drive to accomplish an errand.  The thought, “call my friend and ask her to go with me.” OK Lord! Turning off the car, I dial her cell and invite her to come along. She eagerly accepts my invitation and then proceeds to confess that she is feeling down, and really needs to be with me. Turning on the car, I head for her house. Today is not just about my errand—it about the Lord’s errand! Thank you Lord for leading me…. not by a cloud or fire…but by speaking to my heart.  There are no words to adequately express my wonder of having the Holy Spirit live inside me! Beyond utterly amazing!

Closing my Bible, I sigh with satisfaction. Once again the Holy Spirit illumines Scripture and teaches me how to apply it to my everyday life.  God is leading the way!

PARENTS
  1. This would be a great day to read to your kids Psalm 23.  Make sure you emphasize that God will lead them.

  1. Talk to your kids about the Holy Spirit’s role in a Christian’s life.
John 14:16 Jesus says, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.”John 14:26 Jesus says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

Tell your kids, it’s even better than having their own private tutor!  The Holy Spirit will never leave them.  The Holy Spirit will guide their thoughts. It is up to them to listen and take action. God will lead the way!
