DAY 26: Protect the Innocent

Throughout Scripture God upholds his commitment to protect the weak and fight for the innocent.

Today, meditate on these verses in which God directs his covenant people to maintain the same cause and engage in the same fight – as extensions of his own passionate commitment to justice:

Psalm 82:3-4 – “Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

Jeremiah 22:3 – “Thus says the Lord: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.”

Isaiah 1:17 – “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.”

Prov 24:10-11 – “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.”

How is the Lord leading you to respond... in prayer… and in practice?  As Christ’s hands and feet (1Cor 12:27), what could you do to help protect the innocent?

Suggested things to pray for:
  • Respond to God in prayer and share your heart with him.
