"A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." Luke 6:45

A recent set of statistics from a survey said that 7% of participants stuck to all their resolutions in 2019, while 19% kept some but not all resolutions, 8% of participants fail to keep any resolutions and a whopping 57% chose not to make a New Year's resolution at all. I personally believe that fewer people are making resolutions because they are coming to reality with the facts. Most people don't keep their resolutions past February because they simply don't believe in them. People don't believe that they want to get healthy even though they may know that they need to. I would argue that if you truly believe something it's easy to commit to it. Not necessarily easy to do, but if you believe it despite how hard it may be you stick to it.

I believe that the New Year is as good of a time as any to reexamine, reevaluate, and reaffirm what we believe and to ensure that we are continuously acting on that belief. In today's passage we see that whatever is in you dictates what comes out of you. I'd go as far as to say that whatever you believe determines how you behave. And one must truly ask themselves, "Does how I behave truly match up with what I believe." If you want to truly challenge yourself, ask someone who knows and loves you well enough to be completely honest with you to answer this question: "Do the things I say and do match up with what I believe? Why or why not?" Let's do our best this year to lay the foundation which allows our belief to impact our behavior for the right reasons. We don't just want to tell others how to live, but we should paint a picture of how they are to live in Christ with our lives.
