John 1:16

“From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.”

When was the last time you thought about how amazing God’s grace is?

We often think of grace as “God’s undeserved favor,” and that is certainly true!  But what does undeserved favor mean?  In the Bible, grace is not just an idea or an abstract concept.
James Strong, the author of the famous concordance, defined it as: “the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life.”

Grace is God giving us everything we need to trust and obey him every moment of the day, regardless of what we deserve.

The apostle John put it this way: “…we have all received grace upon grace.”  You see, grace is not something we receive one time at the moment of our conversion.  We receive it continually.  God piles grace on top of grace… on top of grace. And the supply is unlimited.

D.L. Moody once said: “A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough today to last him for the next six months, nor can he inhale sufficient air into his lungs with one breath to sustain life for a week to come.  We are permitted to draw upon God’s store of grace from day to day as we need it.”

Author Daniel Henderson compares it to an intravenous bag that provides life-giving hydration and medicine to a patient.  Once the IV-tube is inserted into a vein, doctors can inject an endless variety of specialized treatments directly into the patient’s body.

And that’s what God does with grace.  “From his fullness” he gives us a fresh infusion of divine grace to meet our every need.  Saving grace, sanctifying grace, empowering grace, healing grace, guiding grace, suffering grace, dying grace.

No matter what we’re going through, God gives us exactly what we need, as we need it, the moment we need it.  He gives us grace upon grace upon grace.  Throughout the day. Every day.

So today, spend some time praising God for his amazing grace in your life.  And remember that he can and will give you a fresh infusion of grace to meet your every need.  He will inject it straight into your situation so you can draw upon his riches and rely upon his divine resources. And he will receive the praise and glory.

That’s what makes grace so amazing!
