Luke 10:27,28

He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Everyone wants to “live,” “thrive,” or live “the good life.” We are told nearly every day through media ways we can look out for ourselves, and yet depression and anxiety reign in our culture so significantly. And then we encounter again the profound word of King Jesus, as He responds to a man called an expert in the law who asked Jesus, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” He then quoted to Jesus this profound command that sums up all the commandments. One is vertical, and seems obvious if you were be striving to be religious, but the second is not merely extra credit. God in His wisdom has connected obedience for us is to love God AND love our neighbor. What’s profound is, loving God gives you the power to love your neighbor, and when we love our neighbor we see deeper revelations of God.

So today I charge you to have eyes for your neighbor out of obedience to Christ. Don’t miss today’s slice of eternity and the opportunity to join Heaven! As you start or continue the day, give the Lord your unbridled worship for who He is and all He’s done, and then ask the Lord to give you eyes for your neighbor to demonstrate love on His behalf. And before you know it you will be living “the good life,” just as Jesus promised, “you will live.”
