Psalm 118:6, 21

The LORD is on my side; I will not fear; what can man do to me?
I will praise You, for You have answered me, and have become my salvation.

Sometimes it’s good to remind myself that the Lord is on my side. I know that the Lord is for me and not against me, and that God wants nothing but the best for me… but for some reason, when I say, “The Lord is on my side,” it has a different ring to it. I guess it feels more personal to me.

It reminds me of the scene in the movie ELF when some boys start attacking Buddy the elf and his brother Michael with snowballs. Michael is ready to run when Buddy says, “We can take em!” And before Michael has time to turn around Buddy has made a mound of snowballs, and with precision aim takes out the group of boys. Up to this point Michael hasn’t thought much of Buddy. But this endears him to him because he realizes Buddy is not only on his side but also like the second verse above, he has his back.

The Lord is not just on my side, He is also my salvation. He will provide what is needed to save me, from others, from Satan, and from myself. As I enter this next year I want to remember that no matter what lies ahead, the Lord is not just on my side He has already figured out what He will do to save me.
