Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

As I read Hebrews 10:24-25 a word jumps out at me…consider. I need to consider what? Reading on, more direction is given. I need to consider how to stir up love and good works towards others. I get it! It’s about others! I consider…how much of my life is about me? What delicious morsel I am going to eat, what I want to wear and how I spend my time. How much of my life is truly spent on others? UGH! My heart is convicted.

I ask myself, “What am I doing today that will encourage others?” “How am I loving others?”  “What good thing can I do for others?” “How do I meet with others to encourage them?” I admit my next thought is Covid! But I rebel against that thought--God has provided me opportunities to connect with others: I can Worship Outside morning and evening; I can join the online Worship Service; I can ZOOM; I can call someone on the phone, FaceTime; I can drop by someone’s house and leave a surprise. I can mail a good old fashion letter of encouragement; I can send a message of love to my neighbors by putting up beautiful lights for Christmas!

My heart responds to this teaching in Hebrews 10:24-25. God wants me to put love into action for others with the same attentiveness I give to my own personal needs and desires. Oh, God, please teach me!

Another Scripture fills my mind:
Leviticus 19:18, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.”

My heart is full, because I know today the Lord has taught me through His Scriptures and the Holy Spirit’s prompting. Time to get busy for Others!

FOR PARENTS:
1. Help kids memorize Leviticus 19:18 (Post it around the house).
2. Make a sign to post in the house that has the word – OTHERS. You can spell out the letters with macaroni glued to paper, or you can use glitter, buttons, or stickers.
3. Help your kids make a list of people they want to love and encourage.
4. Help them choose how to express this to each person on their list.
