Psalm 23:5a

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies…

As we walk through experiencing potential numbness from social isolation, job insecurity, health scares and nation fears, I’d be willing to bet our feelings aren’t of warmth at a banqueting “table.” But is it possible God’s promise of this wonderful table is true even when fears and strains pull on us from every side? Fears so ongoing you just want to hide in a corner till it all blows over and goes away. But what if external peace wasn’t God’s main objective? What if His promise was more powerful than what we experience?

King David knew many emotions, like running for his life from an angry and jealous king for 11 years! All this after God had declared through the prophet Samuel that he was to be the new king of Israel. David knew many dark moments of weakness, sin and frailty…but he also knew the DIVINE POWER OF GOD THAT HELD HIM TOGETHER!

Can you imagine living in such a measure of God’s peace (Shalom), that even in the presence of your enemies, God is preparing a table in front of you. The bread and the wine, fine china and an elegant table cloth, set out by the King of Kings who owns the universe, and counted the hairs on our heads.

So as we conclude this fast, let’s feast at HIS TABLE! The ache is real and we’re all feeling it together, but His promises are as sure as the sunrises! “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." -Psalm 23:5
