Advent Devotionals: Day 22

Son of Man

Matthew 26:64 - “Jesus said to him, ‘You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.’” (NASB)

Let’s get right to the point. CHRISTmas is about Christ—Jesus Christ. He is Jesus, the fully human Son of Man. He is the Christ,  the fully divine Son of God. Christmas is about the One who came to seek and save the lost—like you and me! (cf. Luke 19:10). As I once heard, “The Son of God became the Son of Man so the sons of men could become the sons of God.”  That is THE Christmas Story. Consider Titus 2:11–14:

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.”

  • In the past, Christ left Heaven, took on a human body, and came to save us from the eternal PENALTY of sin (Read Titus 2:11).

  • In the present, Jesus Christ is sitting at the right hand of God and, through His Indwelling Holy Spirit, is here to save us from the daily PRACTICE of sin (Read Titus 2:12).

  • In the future, Jesus Christ is coming “on the clouds of heaven” to save us from the everlasting PRESENCE of sin (Read Titus 2:13).

The Eternal Son of God and Incarnate Son of Man is our Christmas—past, present, and future. What a glorious thought!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Lord of CHRISTmas, be the center of my attention this season and every day.
