Daily Devotional

"Today you have proclaimed the LORD to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His judgments, and that you will obey His voice. Also today the LORD has proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you, that you should keep all His commandments, and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to the LORD your God, just as He has spoken."
Deuteronomy 26:17-18

Growing up I remember watching the movie "The Ten Commandments." It's actually a favorite of Gary's (my husband). There is a line in the movie that Pharoah says, “So let it be written, so let it be done."  The Pharaoh had a custom when setting a new policy or law to state with due gravity, “So let it be written; so let it be done.” This meant that negotiations and considerations were over and woe to anyone who did not obey the edict or deliver on their commitments. As I was reading this passage it made me think of this. But more so because this is what God says. As we have seen, especially in today's culture, man's promises, proclamations and declarations can be very unreliable. But as I read this passage I was comforted and assured. No matter what, my God's Word is completely reliable and true.

Sometimes we just need to know that no matter what anyone else thinks, today the LORD has proclaimed you to be His special people… And the result will be that He will set us high above. Wow! I want that and love that assurance. The thing is, it's completely dependent on depending on Him…keeping His commandments, walking in His ways, obeying His voice.

A friend of mine sent me this the other day. I guess I loved it because I started reading cover to cover through the Word of God when I was 30 and have experienced learning from the Lord in this way ever since. I hope it encourages you to seek Him with all your heart and feel the hope that that you are His special people! Oh Lord, "so let it be written; so let it be done."
