I don't know if you ever changed your major in college but I have had quite a bit of experience in that area. For me, it was after I'd been medically separated from the Marine Corps (which I found my identity in) and I had no idea what I was going to do with the rest of my life. At first, I wanted to be a teacher, then an athletic trainer, then a physical therapist, then a nurse anesthetist. I mean, I was seriously lost at the time but I now realize that I wasn't just lost because I changed my major so many times, it was because I was putting my identity into all those things to replace the loss of my separation from the Marine Corps. And what I realized was that it’s so hard to live life when we don’t have confidence in who we are.

A lot of things will dictate our identity if we let them — things like our favorite sports teams, our relationships, games, hobbies, activities, careers...you name it! At some point, we will reach a place where that identity will fail us because our identities are not meant to be built on what we do, but on who we are. And when we believe in Jesus Christ, we are adopted into the family of God as His children.

God wants more than a distant relationship with us. His plan is to be our Father, as we are His sons and daughters. The world can make us feel like we are lost and alone. It pollutes our true identity with distractions and pain. However, God says you are more than that! You are royalty! You are the sons and daughters of the King of Kings! Scripture calls us to “go out from their midst, and be separate from them” We are called to live a set-apart lifestyle!

Are you living right and loving others? Are you identified with God as His child, or do you feel like you are in the middle of an identity crisis? Do you know who you truly are? God has called you to be His! Live like it!
