Surely I am with you always

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20

As we come off the heels of Christ’s Passion week and Resurrection Sunday, what confidence and promise we have to drink in, the very last words Jesus said after the Great Commission and then He ascended into Heaven. Imagine the difference if He would have simply left us marching orders. It would’ve been completely appropriate after His sacrificial love expressed on the cross etc. We would’ve had more than enough reason to obey His instructions. But no, instead Jesus chose to conclude His very last words to us before ascending to the Father with a precious life-changing promise, “…and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

What a difference that comforting promise makes  from our victorious Heavenly King, to our vulnerable moral hearts. We live in a world full of sin and peril where life can break down in an instant.

Are you in a season of confusion, carrying a heavy heart, or a time where your  faith has become more intellectual than personal… Jesus ends Matthew’s gospel with a life changing promise that He’s with us in every step! We see a similar promise through King David in Psalm 139:7-10 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”

So today I pray the profound promise of Jesus’ nearness would surround your heart and mind, and cause you to live in evident shalom (His peace). And then you would spread it everywhere you go!
