Advent Devotional

Psalm 149:1-4

"Praise the LORD!  Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise in the congregation of the godly ones.  Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King.  Let them praise His name with dancing; let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre.  For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation. "

This beautiful psalm reminds us to sing praises to the LORD and to worship Him with a new song of music!  What a wonderful reminder in the season of Advent.  We praise Him with song and dance knowing that He takes pleasure in our worship.  This psalm continues to teach us that He will beautify all of us with salvation.  The salvation sung about here is found in Jesus alone.

In this season of Advent, take a moment to worship God with music and song.  Sing to him one of your favorite Christmas carols or hymns of worship.  Remember that he takes pleasure in your worship regardless how well you sing.  You have an audience of One so take a moment to sing to Him your thanksgiving!

For Reflection & Discussion: What is your favorite Christmas Carol?  Why do you love it so much?

Prayer: Dear Lord, we pause a moment to remember to worship You in this season of Advent.  We will sing with shouts of praise to You, O Lord.  We will worship with dancing and instruments before You.  We know that You take pleasure in our worship as You beautify us with salvation.  Amen.
