Revelation 21:3

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”

I remember the day, when a social worker dropped off our two foster sons. Their biggest challenge in adapting to our home was sound.  For example, one of our daughters, frequently came home from school cheerfully singing loudly as she threw open the front door. The boys would immediately drop to the floor and curl their bodies into protective balls with their trembling arms shielding their heads.  Sadly, loud sounds in their previous home meant they would be beaten. Gathering them in my arms, I would reassure them that this home was safe. No one would hurt them. In the weeks and months ahead they accepted that our home was safe.  It was a joy to share the love of Christ with these two precious boys.

The word HOME can be a beautiful word…it just depends on who lives there and how they treat others.  If the family members are loving, kind, exercising forgiveness—then the word HOME is a treasured word. If the family members fight and even hurt each other the word HOME will represent that. The word Home eventually took on a new meaning in the life of the boys. Although our home was not perfect, the boys learned that our home was a happy place of love. This opened their hearts to teaching about salvation and Heaven.  We taught the boys that in Heaven, our home will be perfect, safe and beautiful!  The best thing of all is that our heavenly home is with God.  He will welcome us to HIS glorious home forever. I believe the Lord used the boys’ experience in our home to draw them to their Savior.

Our HOMES can point the way to salvation and …. OUR HOME IN HEAVEN WITH GOD!

Revelation 21:3 “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”

FOR PARENTS:
  • Draw the outline of a house on a whiteboard.  Help the kids to describe their home.  “Is there love in our home?” Then write the word “love” inside the picture of the home.
Is there fighting in our home? Write the word “fighting”. Is there forgiveness in our home? Write the word “forgiveness” in the home.  Etc.
  • Teach them that the whole family works together to make this a happy home.
  • Repeat this exercise as often as needed.
  • Talk to the kids about the forever home, Heaven.  Describe how special it is.
