Habakkuk 3:18

"The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places."
As we serve the Lord it is easy to get focused on ourselves, and our part in that relationship.  But the real power of our love and service is not first bound up in us.  Keeping our eyes on us, on ourselves, is always finally defeating.  It only produces pride on the one side, or a sense of failure and discouragement on the other.

No, our real power to live and serve is bound up in Jesus.  It is made real and alive by His Spirit in us.  So, Habakkuk says, “The Lord God is my strength.”  We look to Him.  We appropriate that strength through faith in Jesus.  It is ours, if we will have it.  He Himself is our strength.

That strength, that faith in Him will equip you in a way which fits His calling for you, “He has made my feet like hinds’ feet.”  As the deer and the goats have feet which fit them to navigate the mountainous terrain of their worlds, so everything about you is fully prepared to make you successful in the work of His calling.  He has made your feet ready!

If this was not already enough, the Lord also is the one who compels you, coaches you, empowers you to go and accomplish His purposes, “He makes me walk on my high places.”  The places God is calling to are high places.  It is a life above the world, not merely doing all the everyday things that all the unbelievers are doing.  You have a high calling in Christ!  He makes you go there!

Our vision and calling is up in the lofty world of the eternal kingdom of God.  As you traverse these heights, remember Habakkuk’s words:
  • The Lord God is my strength
  • He has made my feet like hinds’ feet
  • He makes me walk on my high places.

Rise up and go, then, in the strength and preparation of the Lord!
