Daily Devotional

Psalm 5:1-3

Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my groaning. Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray. In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

I especialy love the first three verses of Psalm 5. They present seven principles I often reflect on before my morning devotions. As we engage in these 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, I encourage all of us to use these, as well:

• Morning Devotion Principle #1.
Wake up aware that God wants to hear from you.

“Give ear to my words, O Lord . . .” (Psalm 5:1a)

• Morning Devotion Principle #2.
Share with God your deepest feelings every morning.

“Consider my groaning...”  (Psalm 5:1b)

• Morning Devotion Principle #3.
Be honest about what you really need.

“Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God . . . “ (Psalm 5:2a)

• Morning Devotion Principle #4.
Keep reminding yourself to whom you are praying.

“Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God. For to You I pray...” (Psalm 5:2a).

• Morning Devotion Principle #5.
Pray in the morning when you need it most.

“In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice...” (Psalm 5:3a)

• Morning Devotion Principle #6.
Organize your morning prayer-time.

“In the morning I will order my prayer to You . . . “ (Psalm 5:3b)

• Morning Devotion Principle #7.
Wait expectantly for God’s answers.

  “.. . and eagerly watch” (Psalm 5:3c)

ENJOY your quiet time with the Lord!
EXPECT great things from the Lord!
