2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-control.

This last Sunday I preached from 2 Timothy 1:3-7, reminding us all about: “Rekindling Your Fire for Ministry.”

The second half of the message spent a lot of time on spiritual leadership with regards to mentoring and/or discipleship, both what it means and how it is done.

I wonder…Have you ever been in a discipleship relationship where someone more “spiritually mature” was teaching you, molding and shaping you, and discipling you in the things of God? Or, have you ever been the person teaching, molding and shaping, or discipling someone else? Yes or no? Why or why not?

After all... it is a large portion of what we’re to be doing as Christians here in this world.

Every Timothy needs a Paul.
Every Paul needs a Timothy.
Iron sharpens iron.
Christians sharpen Christians.
Men sharpen men.
Women sharpen women.
Discipleship is an important purpose for your life right now!

At the end of my sermon I gave you some “holy homework.” I encourage you to take these two tasks seriously and pursue them to the point of fulfilling them. Then, email me and let me know that you’ve done it so that I can begin praying for your discipleship relationships!

1.) Pray about and ask at least one mature Christian you know to mentor you in the faith.
2.) Pray for the person God would have you mentor, and ask God to bring that person into your life with this very purpose in mind.
