Psalm 5:7

But as for me, by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house...

I did not grow up with any living grandmothers. So, to watch firsthand my wife explode with joy over serving our grandchildren is truly remarkable. A brief visit or a lengthy sleepover at Grammy and Pa’s is made into a memory by her many acts of serving these precious kids. Into their “museum of memories” goes Grammy’s cooking and special treats, Grammy’s hugs and even Grammy’s loving corrections, followed by loud kisses.

Her constant devotion to their well-being is such a picture of the word “lovingkindness” (the Hebrew word: hesed). It is used hundreds of times in the Old Testament—over 130 times in Psalms alone. It is a multi-faceted word that wraps up goodness, kindness, love, loyalty and devotion in one package. The phrase “His lovingkkndness is everlasting” rings throughout the Scriptures.

Grammy’s love gives our earthly family a taste of God’s eternal lovingkindness we who know Christ will experience when we enter His house forever. His loving arms are wide open. Accept His embrace today. And yes, go ahead and ask Him for “a special treat.” He has them already prepared.
