Daily Devotional

Luke 9:23b

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Today might not seem any different from yesterday or tomorrow, but today is unique. We have lots of Monday’s, we even have lots of May 4ths, but only one today. What do I mean? We literally only get today once. Tomorrow will be a new today, but it won’t be the same. You can go to Google right now and search “how many days ago was ___” then enter the day you were born. For me, my birth date was 12,515 days ago. I only get one 12,515th day. Tomorrow will be my 12,516th day, and I only get one of those.

I was recently asked the question, “what does it look like to daily follow Jesus?” Truthfully, it’ll look different each day but the thing that remains the same is a denial of ourselves and submission to our Lord Jesus. Each day there will be different areas of myself that I need to deny and different ways that I need to submit. The beautiful thing is that when we do submit to Him, we find a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light (Matthew 11:30). Don’t waste today. Today is a new opportunity to follow Jesus. Today we each get to decide who we will live for.
