Matthew 5:14

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;"

In ancient times a city set on a hill had an obvious advantage; you could see it from far away. As day turned to night and those in the city lit their lamps, the city became more noticeable. Think about that; the darker it got, the easier it was to see the city.
Imagine the fear and trepidation a weary traveler might feel as darkness began to set in while he was still walking out in the wilderness. Now also imagine the joy that same traveler would feel when he saw the far-off glow of his destination city.

The church has faced dark times before, and it’s during these times we can shine the brightest. We’re kind of like the moon, though it has no light of its own it reflects the light of the sun and so gives light to the darkness. We too aren’t shining with our own light but are reflecting the light of something far greater than ourselves. Think about how you can shine the light of Jesus to those around you.
