2 Corinthians 9:8

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."

You ever have those days where you feel you just can’t do it. Maybe you can do some of it but there is just too much, or it’s too hard, or too out of reach. Whatever it is, your best does not seem to be good enough. It’s a sinking feeling, it deflates us and causes us to withdraw back within ourselves. But while we feel at our lowest, it is at this place that God can work wonders through us. God loves to take broken people and use them mightily for His glory. The Bible is full of stories of men and women who were not good enough, but God worked through them to accomplish His great purpose. Sometimes we have to be broken before we can step out of our own way for God to use us.

God says here in 2 Corinthians that always have all sufficiency in all things! Wow, what an amazing statement. Although it doesn’t always feel like that. But I think the point we need to take away from this is that God is the one giving us sufficiency for every good work. Its not coming from within us, or ourselves, it’s God. When we try to do things in our own power, our way, it often does not end well. However when we put our trust in God and lean on His power we are often amazed at what can be accomplished.

I’m very technically minded and can easily get lost in the troubleshooting of a problem when up against a deadline. I am so blessed by those around me like Laurel who will stop everything in the midst of things not working to say “we need to pray.” Its times we notice our own power and abilities are not getting it done to stop and pray. We need to refocus on the One who is able to accomplish abundantly more than we can ask or imagine and rely on His power and strength to accomplish His purpose.

God calls us to do good works, but He doesn’t stop there. He gives us the grace and power to do those good works when we rely on Him and not on ourselves. I’m reminded of Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
