Join a Growth Group!

At Campus Bible Church, we want to see people connecting together in deep, meaningful relationships that glorify God.  We believe that one of the best ways to do this is by joining a Growth Group. Growth Groups are small groups of about 8-12 people who meet regularly in homes to pray together, study together, serve together, have fun together, and care for one another. They provide the sharing, accountability and encouragement most of us need in order to grow deeper in our walk with Christ.

Top 6 Frequently Asked Questions

Thinking about joining a Growth Group but you have questions? No problem. Check out the Top 6 Questions asked about Growth Groups and see if your question is answered. If not, let us know and we’ll be happy to assist you and get you plugged into a group.
1.  How long do the groups last?
Growth Groups operate on a quarter-based schedule. Each quarter typically runs 10 weeks, with a break in between quarters, and summers are off. At the end of each quarter, individuals have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group, or taking a break. Most people stay in the same group throughout the year. And groups may continue to meet informally or socially during the summer break.
2.  Which group should I join?
We suggest you join a group based on your “station in life” rather than on geography or the most convenient night of the week. The groups that have the greatest impact are the ones where people develop the deepest friendships, and this usually involves having things in common, such as shared interests, backgrounds, marital status or similarly-aged children. Frankly, it might take two or three groups before you find the perfect fit. But don’t worry, you’ll find it!
3.  What will we study?
The studies are based on the previous weekend’s sermon and follow a “Lecture‑Lab” model. If you imagine the weekend sermon as a lecture on Christian living, then the group meeting is a lab where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the sermon works out in real life. Each week there will be a series of questions to study and complete before your meeting. The questions are included along with the sermon outline in the bulletin.
4.  What is the required commitment?
Joining a Growth Group requires a 10-week commitment to attend the weekly meetings and to do the homework ahead of time. Obviously, allowances are made for sickness, vacation, work conflicts, and other special events…but not much more! We have found that this commitment is the key to strong relationships and healthy groups.
5.  What about childcare?
We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare. Some groups are designed for “family worship” and include children in the meeting. Some groups provide childcare at designated homes, which rotate throughout the month, and group members take turns watching the kids. Sometimes it works best for families to pitch in and hire a sitter. Sometimes older kids can teach a short lesson and play games with the younger kids. Talk to your group’s leader to find out if any provision has been made for childcare.
6.  How do I sign up?
Church wide sign‑ups begin at the start of each new quarter. Those who are new to the church can sign up and join any group that has openings without waiting for the start of a new session.  Sign-ups take place online or at sign-up tables on designated Sundays.  If you have any questions, please call Pastor Kenton at the church office. We will be happy to help you find a group that is just right for you.
